It makes the remaining friendship awkward at best, humiliating at worst. Revealing romantic feelings is a risky business. Many people find a way around the risk. Or at least they think they do. So instead of asking the person on a date, you go on approximations of dates that allow for plausible deniability of all romantic intentions.
It may be based on convenience before short-term circumstances. Unlike friends with benefits, where both parties agree to avert developing feelings, the boundaries of a situationship are usually less clear. Individual or both partners might be ahead of you to see if the relationship becomes more serious over time. Am I in one? What does it air like? Not everyone agrees on can you repeat that? defines a situationship, but the next are just a few signs so as to you might be in one. You only make last-minute or short-term plans. Although what always kept me putting for my part out there despite the disappointing chance was remembering the good dates. Absolutely, dating can be frustrating, but it can also be super fun but you and the other person vibe really well. And you generally appreciate pretty quickly if you would be game for a second date before not. Clearly, when you know, you know, and trusting your instinct is usually the best bet.
